Tongues a'Wagging is dedicated to presenting the most thought provoking, laugh inducing, heart wrenching, blush worthy and honestly memorable stories in Palm Beach County written and read by the people who lived them. Ten people! Ten stories! Ten minutes each! Tongues a'Wagging lets you eavesdrop on the kind of conversations people have with themselves. You will definitely be hearing “voices” and each one of them will leave you begging for more.

We all have moments in our lives that we recall with perfect clarity no matter how much time passes. These moments eventually evolve into the stories we tell our family and friends. Telling a story is a deeply personal gesture. It requires the storyteller to be brave because by telling his/her story, they may reveal a part of themselves that was formerly hidden away.
Wise listeners recognize that the stories they hear are precious gifts requiring nothing more than that they be remembered.
I know what it’s like to write about private matters. That’s how I make my living. Words are my oxygen. As an author, I believe that writing is one of the most cathartic… the most healing, self-esteeming building and rewarding activities a person can do.
Everyone has a story to tell. Few people get the opportunity to tell their story publicly. Even fewer people get to write their story and then stand on a stage and tell it to an eager audience. That’s about to change.
As the Managing Director of the Burt Reynolds Institute for Film and Theatre, I am looking for a few good storytellers to put in the spotlight. Tongues a’Wagging is a new community-wide story telling event… an opportunity for the residents of Palm Beach County to let their voices be heard.
Tongues a’Wagging will be dedicated to presenting the most thought provoking, laugh inducing, heart wrenching, blush worthy and honestly memorable stories written and read by the people who lived them. The purpose is to give people who have always wanted to write a chance to share their life’s journey with a wider audience than they would normally have at the family dinner table. By sharing in a public venue, the audience gets to eavesdrop on the kind of conversations people usually have only with themselves.
Our first Tongues a’Wagging, a Valentine’s Day special event, be held on Saturday evening, February 9, 2019, at 7 pm. To be chosen as a storyteller, which will be a juried selection process, potential participants must submit their 1200 word essay on the topic - A Once and Forever Love - no later than January 10th. The stories must be true and they must be personal. Storytellers must write about themselves – not about someone else. All stories will be edited for time and content. They will be rehearsed prior to the show so that even the most novice public speaker can have their moment to shine without their knees knocking. Eight people. Eight stories. Eight minutes each.
If we receive an avalanche of good stories, we will hold a second reading on the same topic. If we find that people are hungry for more such events, Tongues a’Wagging will become a regular offering with a different topic each time. I believe that when the first evening is over, the audience will be hearing voices, and each one of those voices will have them begging for more.
So… are you curious? You should be. Tongues a’Wagging is a unique offering. Give yourself a night off from your usual routine. Come out and meet your neighbors. Better yet… become a storyteller!
For rules and regulations, send an email marked SUBMISSION: TONGUES A’WAGGING to firstname.lastname@example.org. A DO and DON’T list will be sent which will explain exactly what a story must include.
My sincere thanks to Julia Sansevere for inviting me, Dave Mallegol, and James L Casale to her show last night. We so enjoyed speaking with Julia's audience and spreading the word about A Novel Approach to Literacy - October 19 @ 3 pm - at the Woman's Club of Stuart. This event supports scholarships for deserving women! Here's the link to the broadcast:
